Hours: 2 days a week, 3-4 hours a day (7-8 hours/week)

Purpose:
  • To provide church members, visitors, and staff with a clean, orderly place to worship and congregate.
  • To ensure that all publicly accessible areas of the church are clean, ready, and safe for other staff members and the congregation to use.
  • To report any repairs, and light bulbs to be changed; vacuum, sweep, scrub/mop floors, sanitize surfaces, and restock items, such as toilet paper, paper towels, and other supplies.
Qualifications

The Custodian shall be of mature Christian character with a heart for ministry and possess the following skills:

  • Confidentiality and discretion are essential in this position.
  • Strong attention to detail.Well organized, able to prioritize and multi-task.
  • Must be reliable and independent.
  • Able to process and positively adjust occasional interruptions.Able to work independently and be self-motivated.
  • Able to physically lift up to 20kg.
  • Physical requirements include the ability to twist, bend, squat, reach, climb a ladder and stand for extended periods of time, including repetitive use of upper extremities.
  • WHMIS Training is an asset.
  • Able to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and follow COVID-19 safety guidelines.
Hours

The Custodian shall be on duty for 2 days a week, 3-4 hours a day (7-8hours/week). Preferred days of cleaning are Monday and Saturday. Thursday evening, the Custodian shall also put the garbage and recycling on the curb for pick up.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain COVID-19 cleaning protocols and practices.
  • Maintain clean church facilities by performing twice weekly duties in all public areas of the building, including restrooms, foyer, sanctuary, kitchen, offices, classrooms, and meeting rooms.
  • Sweep and mop floors, vacuum carpeted areas, dump garbage and recycle bins, perform all cleaning aspects of halls, offices, classrooms, restrooms, kitchen, foyer and sanctuary as well as washing walls, windows, upholstered furniture and window coverings.
  • Dust and spot clean baseboards, walls, and other surfaces as needed.
  • Ensure that public spaces are not only clean and sanitized, but also presentable and welcoming.
  • Clean & stock restrooms, including sinks, toilets, walls, and floors. Ensuring that paper goods & soap dispensers are all stocked.
  • Observe proper chemical handling procedures when working with cleaning agents, including wearing gloves, goggles, or masks and following written or verbal instructions.
  • Take inventory of cleaners, masks, gloves, sanitizer & other supplies and submit requests when items need to be replenished.
  • Notifying the church office or Pastor of the need for repairs.
Training
  • A 2-week training period will be provided by the church.
  • WHMIS Training will be required. If you do not already have WHMIS, it will be provided by the church.
